Hello and welcome! My name is Wendy. I’m a commission artist, specializing in my extra-creative still-life-style portraits, Bible Symbolism, and wildlife art.
I like “boring” and stuffy old still-life paintings and fancy, ornate frames — the more gilded and ostentatious, the better. I enjoy a good mystery and I believe art is something that should make you think, and even teach you a thing or two, if you’re willing to expend a little energy. Painting is my career and my passion. But my one true love is Jesus. I draw a huge dividing line between Organized Religion and Christ. Organized Religion is man twisting the Word of God so that he might play god over others. I believe that God is TRUTH and LOVE made visible in flesh: His name is Jesus.
I don’t know why people shy away from discussing things such as religion. How are we to learn what we can’t talk about? Well, I love to talk about it, so talk about it we shall. The first Sunday of every month, readers can expect my Sunday Scripture posts: Themed Bible verses paired with a selection of classic paintings. Art and the Bible — two of my favourite things! And some Sundays, you might even get a little lesson too. 🎨
I live in Northern Ontario, Canada, where the winters seem endless, but the 3 months of summer are paradise. I like 50’s television, 80’s music, Hammer horror, British comedy, bad B-grade biker films, vintage Nancy Drew novels, Scooby Doo, pin-up art, wrestling, polka dots, and have a penchant for Vampire lore, books and films. As a proud Canadian, I believe in the gratuitous addition of the letter “u” to random words, and I like vinegar on my poutine. I also speak a touch of French. Mais oui, mon ami! 🍁
My two pieces of advice in life: Don’t do to anyone else what you wouldn’t appreciate having done to you; and when it comes to finding a mate, wait for your true love, as long as it takes. Because it’s better to be alone than to be stuck with the wrong person. Don’t marry a person you can live with, marry the one you can’t live without. 💗

Interesting piece. I’m fascinated by the symbolism of the bird. I wonder if Eudora Welty had a similar vision in her Pulitzer-prize winning book, “The Optimist’s Daughter.” Love your blog, and your philosophy of “religion.”
Wendy Brydge said:
Thank you very much, Martha. I’ve never read “The Optimist’s Daughter”, but it sounds like something I’ll have to check out. Thanks for dropping by and taking the time to comment. :)

You’re right, Tawia, it’s not easy. But when you discover the truth, it makes the difficult journey searching for it completely worthwhile. Thanks for visiting my blog.

Hi Wendy, I have just discovered your ‘site and literally cannot wait to delve into it all.
Time is a worry for me at the moment, but there will inevitably be many comments coming from this end. It looks and reads incredibly well and I have only looked at a couple of pages………great stuff!
Please do a review of one of my favourite “Horror” films………”Candyman”……a terribly underrated film! You may have done it already, if not, feel free!
Thanks Wendy………You’re a star!
Wendy Brydge said:
Hello and thank you, Ronald, welcome to my blog! Happy to hear that you’re enjoying what you’ve read so far. Since you’re a horror fan, I think you’ll like what I’ve got planned for the month of October. I’m not a huge fan of modern horror films, but “Candyman” IS one that I enjoy. Very scary.
Stay tuned and please comment wherever you like!

Hey, Wendy! We are two peas in a pod, you and I. My name is Tracy Allen. I found your page after you commented on my PopHorror article about scary TV shows from ago (Twilight Zone, Tales From the Darkside, Alfred Hitchcock Presents and The Outer Limits) and turned me on to Hammer TV. I’m also a follower of Jesus Christ and, although I do attend church, find that most organized religions are too wound up in material things and the monetary aspect of church rather than the real reason we gather, which is to spread the love of Jesus and spread His Word to others so that they may also feel the joy and happiness that I have found. Strangely enough, my pastor’s name is Wendy. :) As you can tell by the name of the site that I write for, I’m a big fan of horror movies and television as well. I’m excited to have “met” you and I can’t wait to see what else you’ve got going on your blog. Thanks for stopping by PopHorror!
Wendy Brydge said:
Hi, Tracy! Thanks so much for coming over and introducing yourself! I love to meet fellow horror fans, but it’s so much more exciting to meet other horror fans who are also Christians. It’s not always an easy combination to find. What a great coincidence that your pastor is also a Wendy! That really made me smile. :) I hope if you get to watch some Hammer (they also did a great follow-up to Hammer: House of Horror called Hammer: House of Mystery and Suspense) that you’ll like it, and I also hope you’ll be able to find something enjoyable on my blog. October is my favourite month for blogging! Thanks for the follow and again, so glad you came to introduce yourself!

Hey Wendy. I just read your old post about the fate of Judas. This is a subject that is causing me a lot of anxiety at the moment and is literally tormenting my mind. I read your post and you mentioned many things that I hadn’t even thought about. It was very eyeopening. However I still have no peace of mind about Judas’ fate and I wish I could go over your points in person. Is there any way to contact you so that we could chat for a while?
This comment probably sounds really weird, but this is something I HAVE TO go over, I can’t even sleep at night… God bless.

Hi, Alex: If you want more sound teaching and discussion concerning the fate of Judas, I’d highly recommend that you visit my dad’s YouTube channel and watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-Rah7TAzLo You will most certainly get something helpful out of it.

Hi Wendy, my name is Kyung-Hee and I’m so glad that I’ve found your blog. Your art is beautiful and words inspiring. By the way, is it ok if I use the four faces of God painting as part of expanding the mystery of God to other people?

Wendy Brydge said:
Hello, Kyung-Hee! Thank you for the compliment on my work. And yes, if you’re asking to simply feature the painting on another website, you may use an image of my work. All I ask is that you publicly and properly attribute the work to me (“Messiah” by Wendy Brydge), and if possible link back to its accompanying blog post “Understanding Symbolism” (https://wendylovesjesus.wordpress.com/2012/06/25/understanding-symbolism-in-painting-feature-messiah/), and aren’t trying to profit from it. :) God bless!

Hey Wendy! I’ve chatted with you on occasion on Twitter and just discovered your blog. I have a question of general curiosity concerning which Bible version you prefer. I primarily read the NLT. I have a large version with a lambskin cover which is my “church” Bible and recently purchased a “personal” size of the same text. I keep the smaller NLT on my desk for daily reference.
Wendy Brydge said:
Hello, David! My preferred version is the NIV — though, like any translation, it’s not without its problems. And I always tell people to steer clear of the NIVs that were published AFTER 2011, as they’re an updated translation that has some horrendous changes. The kind of changes that totally destroy the meaning of something.
So while I do use my older NIV religiously (if you’ll pardon the pun!), I try to also use the KJV and my Strong’s Concordance in conjunction with it. I prefer not to rely on any one translation as I feel there’s always going to be a few deviations from the original text, either in translation or interpretation. The Strong’s is an excellent resource because it does take words right back to the original languages so you get an entirely accurate meaning.
A paper Bible will always be my go-to, but I love my old Franklin electronic Bible as well. Much easier to take along with you. I wish they were still making them. Such an excellent invention!
I’ll be honest with you, I personally am not a fan of the Living Bibles, which were written with the express purpose of making the Bible easier to understand. It’s been “stylized” and the language modernized in an effort to simplify what the translators believe to be the message. And I think when you start doing that, true meanings are very easily cast aside in favour of someone’s opinion.
But as I said, NO translation is without flaws, so I just think it’s important that we use all the resources at our disposal to ensure that we’re understanding God’s Word correctly. He gave us a myriad of tools, so I say we should use them!

So much in common! But most of all, the “huge dividing line between Organized Religion and Christ.” Wow, you said it!!! I have had a lot of peace, and a much better, closer relationship to the Lord, since leaving organized religion.
Wendy Brydge said:
Peace is the perfect word for it. When we stop trying to play God over other people (which is what I think organized religion is constantly doing) and just do our best to live our lives, doing what the Lord commanded (love and acknowledge Jesus and treat others the way we would like to be treated), then there is most definitely a peace that God provides. There’s just too much pointing at sin going on out there, and not nearly enough pointing to Jesus.
Thank you for taking the time to come to my blog today and leave me some thoughtful comments, Billie. I always look forward to seeing what you’re up to at BRBTV. :)
