There’s a building in Alberta, Canada called the GraceLife church. Right now, Covid-19 cases are surging across my entire country, and the governments are trying their best to contain the situation while still allowing the people as much freedom as possible. Currently here in Ontario, we’re under Lockdown measures, with a further Stay-At-Home order taking effect tomorrow.
This is not a fun post. But apparently it is a necessary one.
GraceLife church has continuously defied mandated Covid measures, measures put in place not through the guidelines of the government, but through HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS.
So with cases in the country raging, on April 7, Alberta Health Services along with the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police), went in and closed down the GraceLife church. They have “physically closed” it to prevent access to the church until the church begins complying with public health rules.
“The church has been at the centre of a prolonged battle over COVID-19 enforcement. Since December it has repeatedly defied public orders, with hundreds of people attending services. The services continued despite a closure order issued by Alberta Health Services in January.” ~ Source
Now let me make this clear: Canada has allowed in-person service for months now. So the church WAS allowed to have in-person gatherings — but they were supposed to be wearing masks, limiting capacity, etc.
And they refused.
I saw this trending on Twitter, and honestly I was appalled at the number of people who were supporting the church and in an uproar about it being shut down. And of course we get good old Franklin Graham in there with his worthless two cents:
Guys… *exhales* I have had ENOUGH of this garbage.
When I chose the username “WendyLovesJesus” over a decade ago, I did so for a reason.
It wasn’t just to make the literal statement that I love Jesus.
It wasn’t just to be a constant presence and reminder that our Lord exists.
No, it was a means of witnessing BY EXAMPLE. ANYTHING I say online is automatically associated with my Lord all because of that username. If I misbehave? People will associate my behaviour with my Lord. If I say the wrong thing? To a lot of people, especially the ones who hate God? I give them an excuse to bash Him further.
My username WendyLovesJesus helps keep me accountable. Because whether I like it or not, whatever I say is a reflection on how other people SEE JESUS. I’m not perfect, not by a long shot. But I do put a great deal of effort into thinking about what I say before I say it. Because I don’t want to embarrass my God. It’s that simple. Here’s a little piece of information that a lot of “Christians” seem unaware of:
We will be held accountable for what we do and say. Continue reading →
